Often called Indonesian laurel, the Salam leaf can be used whole, in casseroles.

Little known outside of Indonesia and Malaysia, the salam leaf has almost no odor, but it releases its flavor by simmering quietly. It is generally used with other spices in meat dishes or more rarely, vegetable dishes.
